Slow Wolf are an alt folk band with a touch of blues splendour

Slow Wolf like the city, but dream of mountains, forests, the sea – and log cabins, they like those too.

When not building dens or stalking bison, Slow Wolf make music that seeks to strip away the frivolity of modern life and connect with more basic human emotions; often by summoning imagery of the natural world and the brutal struggles faced in the animal kingdom.

Slow Wolf are a folk band, but with more than a touch of blues; interweaving finger picking with soulful fiddle hooks, intricate guitar lines and haunting vocals, while delicate bouzouki, brooding bass and driving percussion round up the pack.

Slow Wolf comprise of Martin Brooks (vocals, acoustic guitar, mandolin, harmonica); Henrik Ekeus (electric guitar, acoustic guitar); Duncan Menzies (fiddle, viola, bouzouki, bv’s); Joe Sherwood (bass, bv’s); Pete Grant (percussion, bv’s).

Once regulars of London’s folk scene, Slow Wolf are now a remote band finding occasional moments to make music together. Our album, ‘Territories’ is available in all major streaming services, and you can also buy one of those old fashioned CD’s from us if you like..

Territories album covers - designed by Martin Brooks

Territories - Album

We were lucky enough to record most of the album at The Crypt Studios in crouch End. There we recorded most of the instruments in a two day session, no click track, all playing together in two separate rooms, to get the live feel but with separation between instruments. We enlisted the excellent Ben Walker to engineer those sessions. We then overdubbed vocals and a few extra parts (like accordion and bouzouki). Songs without drums were recorded at our home studio, and one track ‘I Will Look For You’ is a complete improvisation: we tried to recreate the song under studio conditions, but couldn’t quite emulate the magic of that improvisation! The tracks were then mixed by our very own Henrik Ekeus and mastered by Nick Watson at Fluid Mastering. The artwork, was designed ‘in house’ too by, me. These are manipulations of photographs I took of Yosemite National Park’s iconic Half Dome, such that they subtly represent the silhouette of an animal.

You can listen to Territories on all major streaming services.

Here are a few sample tracks from the album.
